Tampa Riverwalk Ranked Among World’s Best Waterfront Districts

We’ve mentioned before that the Tampa Riverwalk is one of the top places for Waterset residents to explore beyond Apollo Beach. Located about twenty miles from Waterset, the Riverwalk offers a variety of dining and entertainment options. With so much to do, there’s something for every age and walk of life.

Lately, it seems like everyone is talking about the allure of the Riverwalk. In fact, UK-based editorial Independent ranked the Riverwalk as one of the top ten waterfront districts in the world, putting the City of Tampa on the list along with big cities such as Tokyo, Berlin, and New York City.

Independent cites “riverside bike paths, fountain-filled parks and a fantastic selection of public art,” as the reasons for ranking the Riverwalk among the best of the best, but we think there are so many more things to do in this 2.6-mile waterfront stretch. Here are just a few.

Dining

The dining options along the Riverwalk are almost endless. On the north end, you’ll find Heights Public Market, which describes itself as, “a food-lover’s dream and a truly innovative concept in Tampa.” This elevated food court is housed inside a former warehouse and offers a wide variety of foods, including vegan and vegetarian options. Directly south of Heights Public Market is Ulele, with upscale indoor- and outdoor-dining and Native American-inspired food and spirits.

Other notable eateries along the Riverwalk include Columbia Cafe, an offshoot of the landmark Columbia Restaurant built in Tampa's historic Ybor City in 1905, as well as Jackson’s Bistro and American Social which are located on Harbour Island.

Attractions & Entertainment

No matter your interests, you can find something to do at the Riverwalk. Sports fan? Check out Amalie Arena to watch the Tampa Bay Lightning play ice hockey. Music lover? Amalie also offers a variety of big-name concerts, comedians, and more. Art aficionado? Be sure to visit the Tampa Museum of Art. Theater enthusiast? The Straz Center offers a variety of musicals and shows. Finally, if you have kids, they’re sure to love the Florida Aquarium and Glazer Children’s Museum.

Parks & Playgrounds

The Riverwalk is filled with pocket parks where you can relax and rest your legs. It also features two dog parks, located near the Straz Center. Last but not least, children and parents alike will love Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park and it’s year-long calendar of events and Water Works Park which features a festival lawn, splash pad, playground, and dog park.
