5 Tips for a Hassle-Free Move
We know moving can be an exciting but still a very stressful task. To make your move a little easier, we’ve gathered our top 5 moving tips.
Schedule Checkpoints on Your Calendar
Before you begin packing, look at your calendar to get an idea of how many days you actually have until you’re moving out of your old home. Take the time to sit down with your family and mark checkpoints up until your move day. This will keep your family’s packing plan on schedule while avoiding any last-minute packing panic.
Here’s a Moving Checklist Calendar to get you started!
Update Your Address
Go to your local post office and file a change-of-address form so all your mail goes to your new Apollo Beach address. The last thing you need is to miss any important documents or bills. You’ll also need to update your address in a few other places: voter registration, auto insurance, credit cards, bank statements and anything else that comes to you regularly by mail.
Take Only What You Need
Do you really need that old lamp that’s been collecting dust? Or 20 winter coats that aren’t always worn with our Tampa Bay weather? Moving into a new home gives you the opportunity to sort through all your belongings one-by-one and decide what can be disposed of or even donated. You’ll also save shipping costs by having less to ship to your new home. Consider donating unused items to Goodwill or The Salvation Army.
Mark Your Boxes
It can be confusing when all your belongings are in different boxes, especially when you unload them into your new home. Take a colored marker and label boxes based on what room they belong in. You’ll save yourself time from guessing what’s in each box and will avoid unnecessary energy moving the contents of the box into the correct room.
Here are some additional labeling tips.
Keep Important Documents on Hand
Things can get easily lost or misplaced during a big move. That being said, don’t seal your mortgage, insurance and other important documents away in a box. Keep all your important and sensitive information easily accessible.
